The results of the Annual Decanter World Wine Awards were announced recently at the London International Wine and Spirit Fair in Excell, London.
For the third year running Cederberg Private Cellar – since it started participating in the competition four years ago – was awarded a trophy. What makes this award so special is that never in the South African wine history has one farm managed to win two Decanter national trophies in two consecutive years.
Remarkably all five wines entered by David Nieuwoudt, Cederberg’s owner and winemaker, were awarded. In August 2009 the national trophy winners from across the world will compete in the International Decanter competition. The international winners will be announced in September 2009. The Cederberg Shiraz 2007, whose elder sister won the International Shiraz award in 2008, won a gold medal this year.
