An hugley popular wine amongst our clients and a real 'gem' from Umbria, the Assisi Rosso, is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, is a delicious wine with flavours of red and black cherries. Bancroft note
''Sportoletti's Assisi Rosso is one of the great values in Italian wine, and the 2008 is another in a long line of gorgeous wines. Ripe red cherries, tobacco, sweet herbs and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from this juicy, plump offering. The 2008 is a touch more lithe than some previous vintages but it is nevertheless outstanding for its overall balance and sense of harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.'' 89 points by Antonio Galloni erobertparker.com
"The Assisi Rosso by Sportoletti brothers (Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet blend) embodies the spirit of this Guide. Its constant, high quality is astonishing and, combined with the relatively simple blend, makes it perfect for the categories of customers the Sportoletti winery intends to target. It is an immediate wine having intriguing scents and combining fruity notes with delicate, spice flavors. The mouth is smooth and full, never banal or too heavy." Gambero Rosso
"...Good as always, this sangiovese, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon blend has an incomparable price/quality ratio..."
This leading Umbrian producer is another new addition to our list. Twenty hectares of vineyards owned by the Sportoletti family are superbly positioned on the hills of Spello and Assisi. The varieties planted range from traditional Grechetto and Sangiovese to the international Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The production is capably run by brothers Remo and Ernesto and the wines, displaying wonderful concentration and elegance, are equally celebrated by traditionalist and modern critics alike.

I have been drinking this wine for years and the 2008 is the best I have tasted. Great value for money.
