Bancroft Wines is delighted to be working once again with one of Australia's foremost winemakers, Michael Kerrigan. Michael has had a prestigious career in winemaking, having spent over 12 years as Chief winemaker at Howard Park and Madfish; both of which were first launched into the UK market with great success by Bancroft Wines. First planted in 1973, the Hay Shed Hill vineyard has the mission of producing world class wines that reflect the place of their origin; wines of depth and flavour that are true to region and true to the vineyard. The Hay Shed Hill wines are vineyard selected and nurtured in the winery to allow the true character of the site to be expressed. Typical cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc Semillon aromas of lively tropical fruits and fresh herbaceous grassy characters make up an intense, crisp and refreshing wine. The Chardonnay exhibits fresh cut pear and honeydew melon aromas with some zesty citric notes. The Shiraz Tempranillo is a fascinating blend of violets and spicy, black pepper notes of the Shiraz with the more savoury licorice aromas from the Tempranillo. The Cabernet Sauvignon has an intense and rich bouquet led by the ripest cassis and berry fruits. Behind the primary fruits are distinctive vineyard characteristics of dark chocolate and mint, with cedar oak notes on the finish.
This grand old vineyard produces grapes of great aroma and flavour concentration, whites that are distinctive in their varietal expression and reds with true concentration and textural complexity. The Hay Shed Hill wines are vineyard selected and nurtured in the winery to allow the true character of the site to be expressed. Only the best fine grained French oak is used to protect the integrity of the fruit. The old vines produce low yields of ripe fruit full of fruit aroma and flavour. These wines have fleshy fruit sweet palates with good extension. The highlight of this old vine material is the maturity of the tannin in the red grapes, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting in wine with complex textures and extended aging potential.
