Sauvignonasse is the grape variety formerly Furlanski Tokaj which was renounced by Slovenia's wine producers in 2005 due to the victory of the Hungarians over other users of the name. Made in stainless steel with 10 months ageing the colour is yellow with a shade of gold. It has herbal and floral notes on the nose a touch of minerality with peach and citrus flavours. Rich and full-bodied. Bancroft note
Ever thought of adding Slovenian wines to your list? Well, we hadn't, until we tasted these exciting wines from the country's top estate. Simčič, (pronounced Sim-chich) is situated on the Italian border with half the16 hectares of low-yielding vineyards in Italy's Collio and the other half in Slovenia's Goriska Brda. The range features superb varietal wines made from Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well as blends made from the indigenous Ribolla and Fruiliano varieties. The wines are made as naturally as possible with estate-grown grapes picked late, at maximum ripeness and then fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wines offer their own unique sense of style and place, they are fresh and pure with great intensity and complexity.
