Eyrie Chardonnay expresses complex aromas and only the barest hint of oak. On the palate the wine's richness is reiterated finishing long and crisp. Oregon is most famous for its Pinot Noir however this Chardonnay is contesting for that honour. Bancroft note
''The 2007 Estate Chardonnay was sourced from the original plantings in 1966 and 1974. Light gold colored, the nose offers up a touch of butterscotch as well as apple, pear, and mineral notes. With excellent grip, concentration, and vibrant acidity, this lovely Chardonnay is likely to improve for who knows how long. I tasted a 1975 Eyrie Chardonnay just after trying this and it was in beautiful shape.'' 90 points by Jay Miller erobertparker.com
The Eyrie Vineyards was founded in 1966 by David and Diana Lett and was the first vineyard in the Dundee Hills. The previous year, David had planted the first Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris in the Willamette Valley, now the epicentre of the Oregon wine industry. In 1970, The Eyrie Vineyards produced the New World's first Pinot Gris, and in 1975 they produced the first American Pinot Noir to compete successfully with Burgundy.
