At this domaine 100-year-old Gamay vines produce fruit that is dense and intense. Jean Calot has enormous passion for his wines and even plays music to his wine while it ferments. In the best vintages, his wines can age gracefully for a decade or more. The wines here are more serious than the average Beaujolais, with additional structure. This comes from the use of traditional fermentation rather than the typical fermentation type of the region, carbonic maceration, which produces softer, simpler wines.
