Eugénie estate was born following the acquisition of René Engel estate by François Pinault of Château Latour during the summer 2006. The estate – named after his grandmother - is situated in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of La Côte de Nuits between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey Chambertin. This village is considered to be the treasure of big wines of Burgundy.
The Estate is managed by Frédéric Engerer, also President of Château Latour, and by Michel Mallard, oenologist who is helped by a team of two multi-task wine-growers. The vineyard is about 7.5 hectares and extends onto the communes of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot and Flagey-Echezeaux.
The estate produces five appellations : Clos-Vougeot, Grands-Echezeaux, Echezeaux, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru « Aux Brûlées » and Vosne-Romanée village. 2006 is the first vintage for this domaine. Michel Mallard, installed as winemaker just in time for the 2006 harvest, points out that there is much progress to be made, but has made a very impressive start indeed.
