Champagne René Geoffroy was established in the 17th Century and is now run by Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy and his wife Karine. Tyson Stelzer (Louis Roederer International Champagne Writer of the Year 2011) rates the Champagne house as “quite simply the finest grower in Cumières". Fifth generation and a true artisan grower, Jean-Baptiste's attention to detail and love of his land is truly admirable. His philosophy is for wines with great purity of fruit, freshness, as well as true expression of terroir. To achieve this Jean-Baptiste has an eco-friendly approach to viticulture, avoiding the use of chemicals and using natural viticultural methods wherever possible. In the winery, this philosophy continues with all grapes being pressed in a traditional wooden press and each of the forty-five different parcels vinified separately. To further preserve the freshness, during fermentation wild yeasts are used and malolactic fermentation is avoided. This makes for more age-worthy wines. For Jean-Baptiste, "champagne must always be very fine, elegant and fresh".
Cuvée Expression - “…totally alive in the glass. Vibrant and delineated, the Expression bursts from glass with dried pears, flowers, almonds and Chamomile...This is a great showing from a wine loaded with class.” 92 Points eRobertParker.com
Vintage 2004 - “An exuberant, racy wine, the 2004 literally bursts from the glass. Dried pears, almonds, honey, orange peel, spices and savory herbs all flesh out as this rich, resonant wine shows off its considerable class. There is more than enough stuffing in the fruit to stand up to the vinification in oak and the more oxidative notes that are naturally the result of this approach. This is a distinctly rich, overt style, but it works. The 2004 is 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay.” 93 points, eRobertParker.com
Rosé de Saignée - “Kirsch, sweet red cherries, crushed flowers, mint and spices all waft from the glass. This is a pretty delicate, ethereal style of Rose considering the year and the saignee style, but the wine’s balance is quite attractive. ” 92 points, eRobertParker.com
