On a recent visit to the region our buying team spent time visiting champagne houses that have begun to receive critical acclaim, one winemaker particularly stood out: René Geoffroy has 14 hectares of Premier Cru vineyards in Cumieres, Damery and Fleury-La-Riviere, made up of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. Since their arrival 12 months ago, the wines have proved to be immensely popular with clients who love their rich and racy yet sophisticated style.
These stylish Pinot Noir based Premier Cru champagnes have recently been applauded by wine critics such as Jancis Robinson and have just been reviewed by The Wine Advocate team awarding some impressive scores. We certainly recommend them. |

"The NV Brut Expression is an unusual, exotic Champagne laced with passion fruit, mango and sweet baking spices. It is a sensual wine that radiates warmth on a rich, textured frame. Sweet, candied notes linger on the finish. The blend is 39% Pinot Meunier, 37% Pinot Noir and 24% Chardonnay, 63% 2006 and 37% 2005 fruit. About 10% of the wine is fermented in neutral oak and dosage is 8.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: July, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012"

"The NV Brut Empreinte offers up licorice, smoke, mint and dried apricots in an exotic, compelling style. There is wonderful richness and clarity to be found in the glass. The weight and sheer presence of the Pinot Noir is clearly felt on the palate, while cool mineral notes provide a wonderful foil to the wine's silky texture. The blend is 82% Pinot Noir, 5% Meunier and 13% Chardonnay, 100% 2004 fruit. About 50% of the wine is vinified in neutral oak and only the Coeur du Cuvee (the middle 1,800 liters of the pressing) is used. Disgorged: July, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2014."

"The NV Brut Rose de Saignee is one of the finest roses readers are likely to come across in this style. The wine possesses dazzling concentration and depth in a silky expression of perfumed red berries. The balance is exceptional and the mousse is remarkably elegant. This is 100% 2006 Pinot Noir, but the vintage can’t be officially declared as the wine only spent 15 months on its lees. Disgorged: May, 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015."
