Dubbed by Wine Spectator as “possibly the hottest old winery in Rioja”, Bodegas LAN is a consistent producer of phenomenal Rioja, in both traditional and modern styles. Their winery is located in the heart of Rioja Alta and is named after the initials of the three provinces in Rioja: Logroño (now La Rioja), Álava and Navarra. The winery’s painstaking attention to detail in the vineyard as well as their complex oak ageing system are major factors in LAN’s continued success.

Bodegas LAN
The Crianza and Reserva are LAN’s most important and benchmark wines. They display great depth, maturity and complexity with well balanced, integrated tannins. Made from 100% Tempranillo, the Crianza is aged for 12 months in combined oak barrels (American oak staves and French oak tops). It displays intense aromas of red fruits with nuances of cinnamon and cacao. Smooth in the mouth, it has good structure and fleshiness.
The Reserva blend consists of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo and 5% Graciano and is aged for 15 months in oak. The Reserva is intense with aromas of crystallised red fruits combined with the vanilla and spice hints derived from the oak ageing. Liqueur fruit, black pepper, violets, eucalyptus combine to make an elegant and balanced wine.
The Gran Reserva is made from the best grapes from vines with an average age of 20-25 years. It is aged for 24 months in combined barrels.
Viña Lanciano is a single vineyard wine produced from 40 to 60 year old vines grown on LAN’s stunning 72 hectare estate vineyard. This wine is the most delicate and fragrant wine of the range. The new style
Edición Limitada breaks the mould of the traditional “woody Rioja” style and packs a modern punch. It has a deep colour with more character extracted from the skins but spends less time in barrel than the Crianza.
LAN’s flagship wine is the Culmen Reserva that is made up of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from 40-60 years old vines coming from “Pago El
Rincon “vineyard. The 2007 vintage has recently been given 91 points by Robert Parker.
Recommended Wines
Bodegas LAN Reserva 2007– “… generous nose of red cherries, over-ripe oranges and Indian ink that is attractive… The palate is rounded and slightly leathery on the entry. It constitutes a sedate, mellow Reserva that has a classical personality…”91 Points, Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com
Bodegas LAN Gran Reserva 2005– “…an intense minty nose of blackberry, smoke and grilled meats that is well-defined, but surprisingly taut considering the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a tarry, leathery entry. The tannins are fine and linear, the finish classic in style with a dash of white pepper and tar. This is a very well-made Gran Reserva drinking beautifully now, but certainly it has the substance to keep.” 93 Points, Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com
