An embarrassment of riches does not quite adequately sum up the holdings of this venerable Burgundy house. Nor does the term ‘phoenix from the flames’ quite encapsulate the remarkable turnaround in quality in production here in recent times. There have been many success stories in the Burgundy region amongst the grand ‘Maisons’ in the last decade or so but the ascent across 4 separate estates, presided over by Alberic Bichot, must surely be the greatest of all of these. Heading the 6th generation of family wine production, the breakthroughs have occurred from Chablis to the Cote Chalonais taking in the magical Cote D’Or along the way.
The award-winning Secret de famille range is superb for the price and a perfect addition to your list. The Chardonnay is elegant and refined with aromas of pineapple and melon plus toasted aromas. The palate is fresh and richly textured, with good integration of oak. The Pinot Noir is velvety and silky with a soft and well-balanced structure with delicate blackcurrant and wild red fruit flavours. Great-value Bourgognes that are not to be missed!
