Key Facts

  • Established: the Verhaeghe family have been making wine in the Lot since the 1950s.

The Verhaeghe family have been making wine in the Lot since the 1950s. Today it is Pascal and Jean-Marc in charge of this domaine, now certified both organic and biodynamic. There are three parcels of vineyards, the largest of which is 12.5 acres with stony calcareous clay which is called ‘Tran’. This plays an important role retaining heat and moisture. Drawing on his winemaking experience from California to Burgundy, Pascal delicately creates wines of great elegance and roundness. The Heritage is made up of 95% Malbec and 5% Merlot and displays cassis, violets and spice aromas and is mellow and seamless on the palate. The Chateau du Cèdre is 90% Malbec, 5% Tannat and 5% Merlot producing a fine and aromatic wine with spiced black fruit aromas. Le Cèdre is entirely Malbec and is aged in new oak. It has a delicate, smoky, damson nose and a thick, concentrated mid-palate. Last but not least, the Malbec Vintage has aromas of deep black plums scented with a hint of lavender and violets on the nose that leads to a luscious sweet and spicy palate, surprisingly clean and fresh with a dark chocolate finish.
