Didier Dagueneau was affectionately referred to as the ‘Wild man of Pouilly’ not only because of his looks but also because of his ideas that seemed crazy at the time. He cut his yields by half, tilling his vineyards with horses instead of a tractor. He paid scrupulous attention to detail at every stage from vineyard management (biodynamic since 1993) to the cellar. He redeemed the reputation of Pouilly Fumé and became one of the greatest winemakers of his generation. It was one of the biggest blows to the wine trade when he died in a tragic accident in 2008. However Didier’s name lives on as the domaine today is led by his son Benjamin and daughter Charlotte. They maintain the Dagueneau philosophy and consistently produce wines that are as pure, intense and concentrated as their father’s.
