Gregory Gouges took over the winemaking from his uncle, Christian Gouges, at this famous domaine in 2007. Since taking over the reins, he has quickly set about making significant changes in production, which has revolutionised the style of the wines including whole berry pressing leading
to partial carbonic maceration and no extraction of harsh tannins from the seeds. As a result these wines are now very approachable in youth, whilst still keeping their capacity to age. The domaine has been certified organic since the 2008 vintage.
Gregory’s wines are certainly complex and have great structure. They have lashings of ripe red fruit and oak spice. The overall quality of the wines is such that they will still benefit from ageing and the top cuvées still need ten years before they are ready to drink. Nuits-St-Georges at its best.
