Long Live the King: The Magical Morgon of Jean Foillard

“What I consider one of the best Beaujolais producers, I have been a long-time fan of Foillard’s wines” Neal Martin

“There is something no-nonsense and straightforward about Foillard’s wine. It seems to say, let’s cut straight to deliciousness. Deliciousness with class, it has a wonderful texture going down” Kermit Lynch

We are delighted to offer the wines from the living legend of Morgon: Monsieur Jean Foillard – Now these are not your ‘everyday’ easy drinking wines made from Gamay, they are packed with complexity, elegance, depth and demand to be taken seriously.

As many of our loyal customers will know the wines of Jean Foillard represent the traditional style of Beaujolais, we have worked very closely with Foillard for many years and each shipment is keenly awaited by both customers and staff alike! Well this time, as with last year, we have a few other little gems to offer… Not only the stunning Cote de Py: Also another 3 delightful wines each with individual character and charm – Furthermore he ages his wine in barrels brought from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti….. the results are sublime!

Simply put these are some of the best reds wines that I have had the pleasure to sample, and cannot recommend them strongly enough –  I suggest a case of the Classique to drink straight away, a case of the delightful Cote de Py and then either a Corcelette or Charmes Eponyme to enjoy over the next 5–10 years with great pleasure.

2015 Morgon ‘Cuvee Classique’ Jean Foillard
“This biodynamic producer is a long favorite of mine making soulful and precise wines. Medium body, bright berry fruit and hints of dried cherries, not to mention fresh acidity. Lively finish. Drink now.” 91 points, James Suckling – jamessuckling.com

2015 Morgon ‘Cote de Py’ Jean Foillard
“Gorgeous aromas of stems and spices with crushed berries and beautiful florals. Coffee beans and charcoal, too. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and lovely caressing fruit. Very long and delicious. Made from organic grapes. Very drinkable now but better in a year or two” 95 points, James Suckling – jamessuckling.com

2014 Morgon ‘Les Charmes Eponyme’ Jean Foillard
“Ruby-red. Vibrant black raspberry, cherry and lavender scents, along with suggestions of star anise, smoky minerals and blood orange. Concentrated yet lithe and precise, offering bitter cherry and red and dark berry flavours enlivened by tangy acidity. Silky tannins shape the finish, which lingers with strong, spicy persistence and resonating florality – Drink 2018-2023” 93 points Josh Raynolds – vinous.com

2015 Morgon ‘Cuvee Corcelette’ Jean Foillard
“Subtle and earthy with perfumed plum and cherry aromas that follow through to a full body, juicy fruit and a lovely finish. Subtle center palate of fruit here. Beautiful balance. From one of the the light climats in Morgon. Made from organic grapes. Drink now.” 93 points, James Suckling – jamessuckling.com

Please Note: Certain cuvees are extremely limited and balanced orders are very much preferred.
