Dear Patrick is one of the original Bancroft star growers and has something of the air of a grand old man of theatre about him. One gets the impression that were he not situated in rural Bourgogne creating little mini masterpieces he would be treading the boards and wowing the audiences with some old comedy from Molière. The Misanthropist of Meursault he is not and in fact his wines have a natural generosity and openness about them whilst remaining very serious Burgundies from the top drawer. Here you will find top-notch Meursaults and sought-after cuvees of Bourgogne.
Patrick vinifies each parcel of land separately, depending on the intrinsic characteristics of the terroir as well as on the vintage conditions.
The amount of new oak used in barrel-fermentation again depends on the provenance of the grapes. The wines of this domaine are typified by their rich flavours of tropical and citrus fruit with creamy and nutty oak. The Bourgogne Cuvées of Oligocene and des Forgets are some of the most serious Bourgognes you can find and are great value for money. Patrick’s wines can be easily drunk early but will also age fantastically for 5 – 10 years.
