Vilmart & Cie Champagne: “Laurent Champs makes some of the classiest wines in all of Champagne.” AG

‘…a sense of effortless grace” Angelo Gaja

Champagne Vilmart is one of the greatest champagne growers we know. There is “a sense of effortless grace” (AG) about these champagnes which makes them incredibly special. Located on the slopes of the Montagne de Reims, in the hamlet of Rilly, Vilmart is owned by René Champs and his son Laurent. Vilmart’s philosophy is summed up in these few words from Laurent: “We do wine first, then afterwards we do Champagne.”

We are delighted to offer you the recently released Grand Cellier d’Or 2014 which “speaks with class and pedigree” according to Galloni. With its impeccable balance and refined structure, this is where the true ageing potential of Vilmart’s champagnes begin.

We also have a few cases of the eagerly anticipated Blanc de Blancs Les Blanches Voies 2009 described as “stunning” by Galloni.

You would do well to snap these cuvées up quickly as there is very little around.

Vilmart & Cie Cuvée Grand Cellier d’Or 2014

The 2014 Grand Cellier d’Or is stellar. Bright, focused and articulate, the 2014 speaks with class and pedigree to burn. I especially admire the wine’s balance. Hints of orange peel, spice, vanillin and a hint of chamomile lend nuance in a creamy, wonderfully articulate Champagne. The balance of energy and textural richness is compelling. I would give the 2014 at least a few years to be at its best. Exquisite and alluring, the 2014 Grand Cellier d’Or is one of the standouts in this range. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2018. 2021 – 2029″ 93+ points, Antonio Galloni.

Vilmart & Cie Blanc de Blancs Les Blanches Voies 2009

“The 2009 Blanc de Blancs Les Blanches Voies is every bit as stunning as it was last year. The combination of the warm year and the natural richness conferred by these 70+- year-old vines yields a powerful, vinous Champagne with tremendous character, depth and the pedigree to drink well for many years. Laurent Champs gave the Blanc de Blancs 7 years on the cork, as opposed to the 6 that are customary for the Coeur de Cuvée. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2017. 2019 – 2034” 96 points, Antonio Galloni
